Rising Suicide Cases in Kashmir
Suicide means ending one's life. In the recent few months, suicides have been on the rise in Kashmir and have become a leading cause of death.
About 800,000 people die by suicide every year, globally and out of those 135000 are the residents of India. It has become the fourth leading cause of death of youngsters in the world.
Suicides have surged in Kashmir during the second wave of Covid-19. Drug abuse and frequent domestic violence are the main causes of the rising suicide cases in the valley. In addition to this, social media interaction is also responsible for this menace. The most common method of committing suicide in Kashmir is by hanging or jumping into rivers, streams etc.
Suicide is one of the greatest sins in Islam. In the sacred holy Quran, Almighty says in Surah Al Nisa, verse No. 29 (Don't kill yourselves.) Not only Islam but all other major religions forbid suicide. We know ihat life and death are in the hands of Allah and if a person ends his life, then he crosses his limits and is bound to be punished by God.
The pandemic has already taken a heavy toll on the mental health of our youngsters and this is the right time for the government to take important steps to prevent increasing cases of suicides. it is also the responsibility of parents to keep their children away trom drugs and the overuse of social media. They need to monitor their activities and behaviours, and if needed they should talk to their kids and lend them their support. Apart from this, the utmost responsibility of parents is to assess the friend circle of their children. That can help them notice their kids' emotions.
Let's come and pledge that to work together to save the
lives of people.
